Public health is a huge issue in todays society. It is important for us as individuals to understand health, in order for our communities to be safe environments. It is interesting to note that the country of Sweden has the lowest rate of teen pregnancies, and is also commended for achieving such a low rate in the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. it is stated that Sweden has put sexual heath education as one of their priorities in an educational setting. They teach, and believe that "personal relationships", and "sexual identity" are important aspects of everyday life. There is much emphasis on sex, and therefore the youth of Sweden are well educated, and have come to make healthy decisions. Why dont we take from them these ideas, and start instituting the deeper sexual education in our schools? This will only help prevent teen pregnancies, and lower the rate of STD's. The more that we know on the subject, can only help us in the long run. Why is a country that is so defined and developed (USA), so behind when it comes to the teaching of sexual identity? I believe that if we grow up around these ideas and beliefs, the youth of america will be less "rebellious" when it comes to sex, causing people to be more aware and more careful. I feel that the US is way to concerned about the issue at hand, yet nothing is being done about it, in efforts to better the public health of our society.

ADP 3: Technology and the Environment
An idiom refers to a traditional expression that does not meant to be taken literally, but instead is a way of expressing a certain situation that often occurs. Two idioms that have references in nature are “ down- to-earth” and “ drop in the ocean”. The term “ down-to-earth” is used to describe someone that is practical and realistic. It also usually refers to someone that is simplistic, sensible and straightforward. The expression itself is easy to understand, especially in context, or in comparison to someone who has their “ head in the clouds”. The earth is something that is stable, and constant, so someone that is down-to- earth is conscientious, not fickle. The idiom can also be seen as an explanation for normal or expected behavior, as something that would come from most people. Someone who has their head in the clouds is not thinking straight, or like the majority other people would. If I was to use this idiom to describe someone I knew, it would be someone like my biology GSI who is strict and expects her students to get her work done, but is also understanding and gives a reasonable amount of homework.
“ A drop in the ocean” is a phrase that implies something is insignificant because it is so small in comparison to much larger issues. The phrase first appeared in the English translation of the bible by John Wycliffe. In the king James version, the passage says, “ Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket and are counted as the small dust of the balance “. The drop can represent anything that is relatively small, while the body of water is referencing something much larger. It can also mean to describe a person, literally in relation to the ocean. Comparing the amount of emotion a person feels to the ocean. Or it can mean something getting lost because of its small size. In essence, it is a very small portion of the whole. For example, it can be used to describe one single exam in proportion to the entire college experience.
